Benthic is looking to add a qualified Mechanical Engineering Team Lead to the team in Houston. The Mechanical Engineering Team Lead will facilitate growth in their Engineering Department. The purpose of this role is to lead the mechanical design aspects of the new and existing PROD technology, and to also provide technical support to operations when needed. The Mechanical Engineering Team Lead will lead teams tasked with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and multidisciplinary system construction and upgrades across the company, including systems in the field. This position includes the responsibility to support and maintain system readiness with the Assets Group through sound engineering practices and version control across systems.


The Mechanical Engineering Team Lead will have consistent "dotted line" reports from the mechanical engineering team, and additional resources assigned to them on an as needed basis by the Engineering Manager. They will also support the Engineering Manager in driving adherence to the BMS and the engineering processes for Benthic.


Duties

  • Adhere to safety procedures and policies in accordance with the Safety Management System
  • Active participation in workshop safety and toolbox meetings
  • Report all hazards and unsafe acts
  • Ensure third party compliance whilst on the premises
  • Actively promote a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the company.
  • Adhere to quality procedures and policies in accordance with the ISO9001 Quality Management System
  • Ensuring documentation is approved by correct persons
  • Compliance with document control procedures
  • Raise corrective actions for all non-conformances
  • Comply with work instructions
  • Identify areas requiring improvement and/or audit
  • Maintaining the security of the company's designs, drawings, and documents register database
  • Creating and compiling technical drawings and technical documentation reflecting the design and as-built configuration of the Company's assets
  • Establishing and monitoring compliance with any appropriate engineering standards
  • Input into the design and development of any equipment related to the activities of the company
  • Preparation of engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Developing a project specification with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines
  • Discussing and solving engineering problems
  • Considering the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints
  • Working with other professionals, within and outside the organization
  • Keeping up to date with new equipment and developments in technology
  • Directing Engineer and Technician teams assigned to tasks
  • Mentoring younger engineers and technicians
  • Reporting team/task progress to Project Management
  • Acting as Mobilization Manager for Projects as required


Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Mechatronics
  • 10 years in a Mechanical Engineering position, preferably in the design of Subsea Robotics or Drilling Equipment
  • Occasionally work in the field, in locations around the world supporting mobilizations, upgrades, and operations
  • Experience leading teams of technicians on short term projects or factory acceptance/SIT testing
  • Experience leading teams of engineers on short term projects
  • At least some experience in offshore oil and gas environment, either rig or vessel based
  • Familiarity with Subsea Drilling technology is a plus
  • Adept skill of hand i.e. competence in the use of hand tools is a necessity
  • Excellence in engineering drawing software packages - preferably Autocad and Solidworks
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Fluency in Portuguese is a plus
