Benthic is looking to add a qualified and experienced Managing Director to the team in Houston. A member of the Geoservices senior leadership team, the MD has overall accountabilities for all aspects of delivery for the Benthic annual budgets and sales forecasts.


The role will be required to deliver the agreed budget, driving organic and strategic growth across the Business Unit as well as providing the necessary support for growth initiatives. Central to the role will be actively monitoring Benthic performance, acting when needed and working with the EVP Geoservices to decide best course of action.


The MD will play a key role in the review and embedding of key management processes and parameters (sales, revenue, costs, margins, working capital, cash, return on capital and risk) into the business. The development of these processes will provide increased clarity on how the Business Unit operates and should support the delegation of more accountability into the organization.


Success in this role will be the safe and efficient running of the BU, delivery of in-year budgets and future growth ambitions through clear control of the key operating metrics identified above. Collaborative work with other MDs and the growth plan will be critical to success in this role.


Duties

  • Accountable for the safe and satisfactory execution of all projects/workstreams within the BU
  • Drive a culture of continual improvement in QHSE and compliance consistent with Acteon's ethics and adopt the highest performance standards
  • Work closely with the Geoservices senior management team to develop the overall vision and strategy for the Business Unit and the subsequently cascade into the individual Product and Service Offerings (PSOs)
  • Work with the Benthic senior management team (SMT) to develop and implement a 3-5-year strategic plan for the Business Unit
  • Work closely with the SMT and sales teams to develop the business plan(s) and budget(s) for the Business Unit
  • Establish a solid view of markets, direction, trends and how they relate to Benthic then feed this knowledge into the Business Line plans
  • Provide day to day leadership to the Benthic SMT in terms of delivery, performance management, hiring and co-ordination. Ensure that the optimal teams are in place, manage performance and career development of direct reports, making changes where necessary and provide clear succession plans
  • Continuously support a compliant culture that is aligned to Acteon's values, ethics, regulations, and discharge of fiduciary duty
  • Work closely with the Benthic sales and commercial team to define the sales strategy for the Business Unit, ensuring alignment with the broader Geoservices strategy
  • Accountable for sales planning for the Business Unit including new territories. Strong relationships should be established with client and supplier organizations
  • Work to implement and embed group wide standards, tools & policies within the BU
  • In the delivery of Projects, the MD, through their SMT, will be accountable for resource (people/equipment) allocation, project portfolio controlling, financial planning and intercompany allocation of costs and profits and Business Unit Performance Management/Oversight of delivery. The MD will also be accountable for Business Unit capex/investment cases prior to being submitted for approval. In leading the Business Unit, the MD will also take an approval role in the planning and delivery of critical projects


Required

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering or Geoscience discipline, or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in a managerial role within a technical/engineering capacity, preferably within the oil and gas or marine sectors
  • Someone with a proven track record of building a business through expert domain knowledge combined with an outward-facing mindset and an understanding of client needs and motivations
  • Proven experience of delivering organic revenue growth
  • Experience successfully operating in a complex, entrepreneurial, and global organization
  • Delivering in an international organization, demonstrating an understanding of the associated cultural awareness which that environment brings, as well as its complexities
  • Successfully operating in an organization which is undergoing significant change and delivering through a period of transition
  • Able to hold oneself and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely and cost-effective results
  • Able to apply technical understanding of the company and industry to improve effectiveness and profitability
  • Proven problem-solving skills of intricate technical business issues and ad hoc/one-off scenarios
