Job Description

Deepwater, part of Acteon Group, protects our clients' assets from corrosion. We solve corrosion problems and improve anti-corrosion technology to reduce maintenance costs and preserve the integrity of infrastructure.

Deepwater is looking to add a HSE Advisor to the team. The HSE advisor is responsible for safeguarding the well-being of staff and promoting a culture of safety. The role must provide support, encouragement and, where appropriate, an audit function to support the QHSE Segment Lead. The role is also responsible for promoting Acteon's Seamless Safety initiative, with the goal of improving safety in the larger group through shared best practices, inter-company support and a strong commitment to zero harm. The successful candidate will have the technical skills and industry experience to be effective in this position and the people skills to work well with all levels of staff.

The successful candidate will be based in the Houston area.

Duties:

  • Ensure all safety records are maintained in Intelex and assisting line managers with reporting when needed.
  • Run the QHSE Work Group Meeting for the Houston site.
  • Assist line managers in the investigation of accidents/ incidents at sites where they have responsibility or as directed by the QHSE Segment Lead.
  • Assist Business Development with any HSE questionnaires/support required by tendering activities or supplier vetting.
  • Ensure the provision of accident/ incident / minor accident and near miss statistics.
  • Ensure that accident investigation is carried out by the appropriate Line Manager with a view to preventing similar occurrences in the future.
  • Stop any plant, machinery or activity where in their opinion danger to a person or persons or damage to premises or equipment is foreseeable.
  • Ensure that the Company's obligations in respect of risk assessment, SSOW, control and monitoring of hazardous substances, workplace, work equipment, manual-handling operations, personal protective equipment and display screen equipment are being strictly adhered to.
  • Establish procedures to be followed in case of emergency evacuation i.e. Fire, Gas or other emergency at the plant and running/documenting regularly held drills.
  • Liaise with enforcing authorities and any appointed consultants.
  • Carry out training in all aspects of QHSE that the HSE Advisor is capable of undertaking, liaising with Managers and external trainers on the quality and content of the training to be provided.
  • Carry out periodic safety inspections to identify unsafe plant, working conditions and practices.
  • Report to the management team on the findings of such inspections and make recommendations for remedying any defects found.


Required:

  • Minimum 5 years in health and safety.
  • Degree in Health and Safety and/or Environmental Science, preferred
  • Good working knowledge of health safety and environmental management systems and current legislation & best practice.
  • Excellent customer facing skills e.g. influencing, negotiation and problem solving.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement
  • Pragmatic, realistic, balanced, and charismatic, trustworthy and dynamic motivated self-starter.
  • Experience and Knowledge of implementation of behavioral safety programs, occupational health, and mental health strategies
